Marnie has been a friend to our campaigns, and I’d urge everyone to send a note of support to both her and Laura Wells via the Laura Wells web site, GreenChange, and, especially, on both Laura and Marnie’s face book pages, where there’s some lively discussion.

I posted something earlier today on Marnie’s FB page encouraging them in their demo tonight and noting that we’re showing that we CAN carck these walls. Marnie responded tonight after the incident:

“Michael, you are 100% correct. Greens can crack the wall. I talked with many reporters tonight about how Green Party candidates are debating their opponents in states like NY and MA. There is synergy. Thank you and Jill Stein for Governor of MA for your amazing work.

The recognition that we’re all fighting identical obstacles can do more to bind us together nationally and, perhaps, really invigorate the national party, than most anything I can think of. They were behind us during our fundraising surge–please let our west coast comrades know that MA stands with them in their fight!

Green Party candidate for governor Laura Wells was arrested trying to attend a gubernatorial debate to which she had a valid ticket, because she was a gubernatorial candidate excluded from the debate itself. Marnie Glickman of GreenChange.org, and a spokesperson for Laura Wells, tells the San Francisco Chronicle about the incident here:

From the SF Chronicle blog:

The big Whitman-Brown California gubernatorial debate at Dominican College in San Rafael already has plenty of drama going — protesters from the California Nurses Association and other groups here in force. And Laura Wells, the Green Party candidate for governor, was arrested just minutes ago and put into a patrol car.

Marnie Glickman, the spokeswoman for Wells, said that the two had tickets to the debate and were entering Angelico Hall, when they were pulled aside by authorities. She said that they were told that they could not enter because of her status as a gubernatorial candidate.

Comrade Garofoli notes that “of course, this being the Bay Area, this isn’t the first time that a Green Party candidate got arrested outside a major office debate. In 2000, the Green nominee for U.S. Senate & soon-to-be Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin, was arrested outside the studios of KRON-TV where Republican Tom Campbell and Democrat Dianne Feinstein were debating.”

We’re trying to get comment from Dominican officials, and we’ll update.
