I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to GMG. I am Ray medeiros and I am running for the 9th Bristol State representative seat.

I am running as a democrat in the local primary.  The main focus of my campaign has been creating good paying jobs for Greater New Bedford.

New Bedford, much like our sister city to the north has been destroyed by poor trade deals formulated by our federal government.  We need to bring manufacturing back to Massachusetts, especially into New Bedford.

Bio-Technology and Green Technology are two specific industries that are hiring in the midst of this recession.  In order to attract these industries to greater New Bedford and Massachusetts we need a strong educated workforce in those industries.  I will work to strengthen career and technical education in our public school curriculum.  

I will also work to bring the supplemental budget into “daylight”.  The Commonwealth of Massachusetts spends millions of our tax dollars on corporations that are not responsible to their employees.

There needs to be public scrutiny on these issues.  If our government gives a million dollar subsidy or tax break to a company, there should be stipulations on that money that direct a portion to the employees.

It isn’t fiscally responsible to hand a corporation your tax dollars and also subsidize their employees.  

I consider myself a Teddy Roosevelt progressive and will work to ensure the working class is brought back to the forefront of our policies and politics.
