A more up to date Candidate in needed for Secretary of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The current Secretary has been late with detailed Annual Reports… no Annual Report available yet for 2012-2013. Difficult to navigate, the Secretary’s website at http://mass.gov/sec for Offices, Divisions needs an update, needs to be easy to use. There’s a lack of access to reasonable staff at the Public Records Division and a lack of access to reasonable staff of the Records Management Unit.
Continue reading Secretary of the Commonwealth… a more up to date Candidate needed.Dan Hamburg, LeAlan Jones, and Jill Stein are running three races that are very important to the Green Party this year. In California, Hamburg is a former Democratic Congressman hoping to be elected as a Green to Mendocino County Supervisor. In Illinois, Jones is the only African American in the Senate race and has polled as high as 14%, in a state where the Green candidate for governor got over 10% in 2006. In Massachusetts, Stein is less than $1,000 away from qualifying for the rest of the debates, and about $38,000 away from qualifying for matching funds.
I’ll make this as simple as possible. Here’s what each one needs from you:
Continue reading Take action for 3 important Green candidatesUnless you live under a rock you know that we have an election in about six weeks time. Here in Massachusetts we have several seats up for grabs including the Governor’s office. For the last four years it has been held by a Democrat and for more than 12 years before that a Republican. There will be four names on the ballot in November but the media is making sure you will only hear from three.
Tonight, a debate will take place being sponsored by a group of media outlets in Massachusetts hosted by CNN’s John King. This debate will feature all four candidates but if the media has it’s way one of those voices will be silenced after tonight. It has already been silenced by several media outlets and I find this action outrageous.
In addition to the Democrat and Republican on the ballot this November will be an Independent candidate and a candidate from the Green Party. It is the Green Party candidate that the media hopes will go away. Dr. Jill Stein is on the ballot in Massachusetts, has met all of the requirements of her party and the Commonwealth yet the media thinks she is not worthy of a spot on the stage. They have decided that a candidate that has not raised more than $100,000 by October 1st is not viable and therefore will not allowed on the stage. I find this troubling on many levels.
Continue reading Media BiasI’ve been gone all summer – traveling, gardening, volunteering a bit, and doing some other things – and as much as I had a lot of fun, it is nice to be back. In all that time, some interesting things have happened with what I consider to be one of the better Green campaigns in the nation this year, and one that I’m very involved with, Hugh Giordano’s campaign for state legislature as a Green.
In case you don’t know who Hugh is, he’s a 25 year old union organizer running as a Green in PA’s 194th district, which is mostly in Philadelphia and also a bit in Montgomery County (for locals, it encompasses Roxborough, Manayunk, parts of Lower Merion, and some surrounding areas). He’s been running a great campaign, knocking on doors, holding fun fundraisers, getting in the newspaper, and raising as much money as a typical Green congressional candidate.
Anyway, below the fold is some news from the campaign, including an endorsement from a fairly prominent local Democrat.

Why not a Green/Rainbow presence in the General Special Election for May 11?

Continue reading Not too late to run for Galluccio’s former Senate seat (Middlesex, Suffolk Essex district)This was written originally for a national audience, so please excuse me if I treat the reader like they know nothing about Massachusetts politics.
Grace Ross, who ran in 2006 as the Green Party’s candidate for governor of Massachusetts, is now running in the Democratic primary for the same office, against incumbent governor Deval Patrick. “I wasn’t planning to run again,” stated Ross, “but things got worse. Things got worse for regular people.”
Continue reading Former Green Party candidate to challenge Mass. gov. Deval Patrick as a DemocratYesterday, the people of Massachusetts were unable and unwilling to elect a democrat to the U.S. senate. I am aghast and perplexed, wondering what their motive for electing a republican to the U.S. senate might be: More of their tax money going to invasions and occupations? More tax money going to corporate bail-outs? More of their wages going to utility, insurance and credit companies, which have the prospect, now, of remaining under-regulated?
Did these deluded voters think killing more civilians in foreign countries will bring them cheaper gasoline?
Republicanism is a disease of the spirit. It is a coagulation of all that is worst in humankind; violence, greed, rashness, selfishness, ignorance, exclusivism, racism, classism and indulgence. It is the state religion of a nation ruled by cowardice and violence. Killing populations of civilians with a large army, air force and navy to steal their natural resources can only be done by a people who are spiritually immature and immoral.
